wonder what you'd really gain at such low speeds. I can't imagine the drag or turbulence effect at less than 80 MPH is anything more than 1-2 MPH at most. I know Lexus touts their underbody designs (and probably so do other carmakers nowadays) but the Nissan engineers spent considerable time on the Cray and in the windtunnel designing the Z32, so I have to imagine if there was a significant effect from the rear bumper that it would have been caught in design time. not saying they didn't allow some compromise, but how much gain do you really think you'd pick up here.
As for the Formula SAE cars, most of that's for show anyway because the cars are designed by gearheads like us on this forum, who think in terms of fast cars and racing. It's why they're drawn to SAE in the first place.
